Fothergill – An exploration of the architectural vernacular of Nottingham

Watson Fothergill, born as Fothergill Watson in Mansfield, North Nottinghamshire in 1841, is considered the most preeminent Nottingham’s architect from the Victorian period, responsible for the ‘Gothic revival’. This article highlights his enduring legacy which can still be seen in many of the Nottingham buildings to this day and was submitted for the Local/Community history competition of 2024/2025.
